Frequently Asked Questions

What services do you offer?

I offer on-location portrait sittings and event coverage. All packages include an online gallery, which is provided for viewing, sharing, printing, and downloading images. The online gallery included with portrait sittings is a proof gallery and is provided for viewing and selecting image(s) as per package to be retouched; printing and downloading is prohibited.

I also offer Photoshop retouching as well as CD(s)/DVD(s), prints, mini-photobooks and magazine-style albums.

What style photos do you take?

I believe a photographer has a responsibility to chronicle events as they happen with as little intrusion as possible. To accomplish this, a photographer develops exceptional observation skills that they combine with editorial skills, artistic inspiration, and technical mastery. My photographic style reflects this belief and is best described as “visual” storytelling - a combination of photojournalism with traditional portraiture. With each shot, I strive to capture the action, emotion, and detail of the moment.

Do you shoot film, digital, or both?

Since 2004, I've been shooting only digital. I enjoy the freedom and flexibility that comes with the medium particularly the ability to experiment with alternate angles and lighting to create striking images.

Do packages include Photoshop retouching?

Only packages for portrait sittings include Photoshop retouching. Basic portrait sittings include between 1 and 3 retouched images. Photoshop retouching for additional images (or as an add-on service) is available at $60 per hour. A quote for requested touchup will be provided and authorization needed prior to start of work.

Do you shoot film, digital, or both?

Since 2004, I've been shooting only digital. I enjoy the freedom and flexibility that comes with the medium particularly the ability to experiment with alternate angles and lighting to create striking images.

How many pictures do you provide?

The number of pictures I take depends on the type of event and individual client preferences. On average with a basic events package (one to two hours of candid photo coverage), I capture between 100 to 250 images. I then hand edit provided proofs, selecting between 50 to 75 for the online gallery. Galleries for two hour deluxe and premier packages include 100 to 125 images.

When will I be able to see my photos?

Your online gallery will be available within 2 to 3 weeks of your event.

Will the watermarks I see in the online gallery appear on my prints or on purchased downloads?

No they won't. In galleries that permit right-click Save As functionality, the watermark will be present.

When will I receive my photos, CD(s), mini-photobooks, or albums?

Note: All items in your package will be shipped together via USPS unless otherwise specified in your contract.

  • Retouched images are typically available within 2 to 3 weeks of your selection.
  • Enlargements are usually ready within 3 to 4 weeks of the availability of retouched images.
  • Canvases take about 3 to 4 weeks to produce once retouched images are available.
  • CDs are produced within 2 weeks of the availability of retouched images.
  • Mini-photobooks (20-pages standard unless otherwise specified in your contract) are usually available within 6 to 8 weeks of your selection of images; review and approval of proof layout will determine final delivery date.
  • Magazine style albums will be available within 3 months of your selection; review and approval of proof layout will determine final delivery date.

Can I keep the negatives?

I typically provide a CD with high-resolution, original-size JPEGs of the images from your online gallery with most packages. You can easily resize these images with an online photo gallery of your choice for printing. If your package doesn't include this option, as an add-on service, I offer CD(s) for $50 plus sales tax with 100 images and an additional $20 plus sales tax for each additional 100 images.

Digital negatives are RAW files that cannot be viewed directly and need to be first converted and then edited for web or print. Most clients do not have access to such tools, which is why I provide high-resolution, original-size JPEGs. For clients who want a copy of these files, I offer CD(s) with the RAW files and PDF proof sheets for $200 plus sales tax with 100 images and an additional $50 plus sales tax for each additional 100 images.

Can I print the proofs?

Proofs are a tool for selecting your final images for portraits, mini-photobooks, and albums. Depending on your package, the results may not be what you expect. Final images are hand-touched for contrast, sharpening, and soft-proofed for paper and printer specifications.

What equipment do you use?

I use Canon equipment and bring backup equipment to every shoot.

What cities do you cover?

Local venues include San Francisco, the Peninsula, South Bay, and parts of the East Bay. Any travel outside a 50-mile radius of Sunnyvale may be subject to an additional $75 fee depending on which package you chose. Other areas that I cover include Santa Rosa, Napa, Sacramento, Monterey and Yosemite.

Do you offer videography?

No I don't. I do offer a photo-slideshow on DVD as an add-on service that can be viewed on your television or computer.

Do you offer in-studio portrait sessions?

I believe people are more comfortable in front of a camera when they're in a familiar setting and instead offer on location sessions. For executive head shots, in-studio portrait sessions can be arranged.

Do you offer on-site printing for events?

Yes I do as an add-on service for some corporate event packages and 4 hour+ Premier birthday party packages.

Can I use your photos in advertisements?

Licensing fees are charged when an image is used for advertising or commercial purposes. Fees are based on specific uses, size, placement, and circulation. Images used on web sites will include my copyright mark (visible) "© Eden Hensley Photography www.edenhensley.com" and a link back to my website. Images used in publications will include a photo credit of "© www.edenhensley.com" on, or directly adjacent, beside or below each use of the image. If you're interested in using my images for advertising or commercial purposes, please contact me for pricing.

Can I sell your photos?

Neither the personal or commercial license rights via SmugMug permit sale of my photos alone or included with other images on CD/DVD or in printed format, i.e. postcard, book, catalog, etc. If you're interested in reselling my images, please contact me for pricing.
